Up And Coming: Aristidez – Tränen, Schweiß und Lachen in Lima

Von der Küste Perus bringt er seine Vorstellung von House Musik in die Welt. Aristidez ist DJ, Produzent, Veranstalter und einer der Aktivposten in Limas Musik-Szene. Er ist Mitbegründer der Party-Reihe 'Casalocasa' und bringt mit seinem Mix aus Disco, Latin und House einen ganz eigenen Ansatz in die Elektronische Tanzmusik. In unserem neuen Up And Coming erzählt uns Aristidez von Weltmusik, seiner Heimat Lima und dem Freiheitsgefühl in der House-Musik.

Dein Sound klingt sehr organisch und hat einen speziellen psychedelischen Klang. Wie würdest du deine eigene Musik beschreiben und was sind deine größten Einflüsse – vor allem in Bezug auf Rhythmik und Percussions?

Ich mochte immer schon immer die Idee, Weltmusik zu machen. Das, was ich jetzt mache, ist also quasi der Versuch, genau das zu tun. Ich verbinde verschiedene Stile und Genres aus allen möglichen Ländern, allerdings immer mit einem Latin-Einfluss. Momentan sind meine größten Idole was, Rhythmus und Percussions angeht, natürlich Latin-Großmeister wie Perez Prado, Machito und Ray Barreto – um ein paar zu nennen. Ich höre ständig ihre Platten und versuche so viel wie möglich davon zu samplen.

Dein Heimatland Peru hat eine eher kleine und unbekanntere House-Szene. Welche KünstlerInnen, Clubs und Musik würdest du empfehlen?

Lima wächst gerade ziemlich schnell und es gibt immer mehr und neue kulturelle Möglichkeiten zu entdecken. Die große Bewegung in der Musikszene zeichnet sich vor allem durch ein paar alter und neuer Promoter aus, die sich in verschiedenen Genres bewegen. Ein paar davon mag ich sehr gerne: Arista, Discofobia, Hotbox, Matraca, Festi Ya, Sadisco, Crimes at the Disco, Discos Graves, Pistas Plasticas, Bqestia, Undersound, Vao Vao, Bulbo, Aquelarre, und natürlich Casalocasa – mein Zuhause, meine Plattform und Party. Die meisten Promoter veranstalten Partys in dem Club Fuga, der momentan heißeste Ort Limas.

Du warst bisher eher als DJ unterwegs, jetzt hast du deine zweite EP veröffentlicht. Möchtest du dich jetzt mehr auf das Produzieren konzentrieren oder hast du schon immer bewusst deinen Output limitiert? Welche weiteren Veröffentlichungen sind bisher geplant?

Ich könnte nie aufhören, Musik zu machen. Ich habe auch viele weitere AKAs, die ich eventuell in Zukunft nutzen werde. Aber irgendwie bin ich dann auch immer etwas zu faul und vor allem zu anspruchsvoll, um direkt alles hintereinander rauszubringen. Ich gehe es da gerne langsam an und lasse meine Tracks etwas liegen und wirken. Außerdem ist das Ganze auch politisch, ich möchte nicht zu der Flut an schlechter Musik beitragen.

Erzähl uns etwas über deinen Arbeitsprozess. Gibt es bestimmtes Equipment, das du nutzt, und wie sieht dein allgemeiner Workflow aus?

Weil ich ihn gerade viel benutze, würde ich den Dr Rhythm Boss 660 erwähnen, ansonsten ist mein Setup ziemlich bescheiden. Am Anfang beginne ich immer damit, erstmal keine Musik zu hören, die nicht von mir ist. Ich möchte nicht zu sehr von der Musik von anderen kontaminiert werden. Am ehesten noch höre ich mir einfach nur Sounds aus meiner Umwelt an.

Du veranstaltest die Casalocasa Partys in Lima. Was ist das Konzept, das diese Partys so besonders macht, und welche Pläne habt ihr für die Zukunft?

Casalocasa begann als eine Notwendigkeit für Stadt, die auf der Suche nach einem sicheren und liebenswürdigen Ort war. Wie der Name schon sagt (crazy house), begann alles in alten Häusern, wo ich und mein Partner Herles zusammen auflegten. Was es besonders macht, ist die Polysexualität, die Freiheit und natürlich die Musik, die wir extra für jede Party auswählen. Irgendwann hat sich das Ganze dann zu einer kulturellen Institution in Südamerika entwickelt, wir haben großartige KünstlerInnen rund um den Globus gebucht und haben in verschiedenen Ländern gespielt. Momentan nehmen wir uns eine kleine Auszeit, aber nicht lange. Zuletzt haben wir damit angefangen, eine konstante Podcast-Serie zu starten, die solltet ihr euch anhören.

Wie würdest du ein perfektes DJ-Set beschreiben?

Eine intime Reise, Trancezustände, wohlige Gefühle, komplexe Szenarien, Tränen, Schweiß und Lachen.

From the coast of Peru, he transports his vision of House music to the world. Aristidez is a DJ, producer, host and one of the most active creators in Lima's music scene. He is the co-founder of event-series 'Casalocasa' and with his mix of Disco, Latin and House, he brings an unique approach towards electronic dance music. In our newest Up And Coming Aristidez tells us about world music, his hometown Lima and the freedom of House music.

Your sound is very organic and has a great psychedelic vibe. How would you define your own music and what are your major influences? Especially when it comes to rhythm and percussion sounds?

I always liked the idea of making world music. So, the music I make is an attempt to do this, merging styles and genres from different parts but always with a Latin approach. Right now, my main icons of rhythm and percussion are, of course, Latin maestros like Perez Prado, Machito and Ray Barreto, to name a few. I always get around their records and play with the samples I get from it.

Your home country Peru has a rather small and unknown house scene. What artists, clubs or music would you recommend?

Lima is growing faster, and I can see more and more cultural offers. This movement is characterized by a bunch of old and new music promoters, in all range of genres and styles. I do like some of them: Arista, Discofobia, Hotbox, Matraca, Festi Ya, Sadisco, Crimes at the Disco, Discos Graves, Pistas Plasticas, Bqestia, Undersound, Vao Vao, Bulbo, Aquelarre, and of course Casalocasa, my home, platform and party. Most of these promoters throw parties in a club called Fuga, which at this time is the hottest place in Lima.

You were pretty active as a DJ so far and now you released your second EP. Do you want to make a shift towards more production or do you consciously limit your output? Are there any future releases planned already?

I can't stop doing music, I have other aliases that I may use soon. In a way, I’m too lazy and demanding to release everything in a row. I like to take it slow and let the tracks macerate. Also, the thing is political: I don't want to contribute to the excessive flow of shitty music.

Tell us about your production process. Do you have any special gear that you like to use? How would you describe your workflow?

Maybe because I'm recently playing the Dr Rhythm Boss 660 I would mention it, although my setup is really modest. My process begins with not hearing music that is not mine. I don't want to be contaminated with the works of others. I could be hearing some environmental sounds.

You host the Casalocasa parties based in Lima. What is the concept behind it, that makes it special? Are there any future plans regarding Casalocasa?

Casalocasa began as a need for a city that was craving for a safe and lovable environment. As its name says (crazy house in English), it began in old houses, me and my partner Herles playing the origins of dance music. What makes it special is the polysexuality, the freedom, and the musical selection we made for each party. Then it grew to be a cultural reference in South America, by booking awesome artists around the globe and also gigging around countries. Right now we are on hiatus, but not for too long. How would you describe your perfect DJ-Set?

An intimate journey, trance, comforting emotions, complex scenarios, tears, sweat and laughs.
